“House Commerce Committee leaders said the all-Republican FTC will end the “partisan mismanagement” allegedly seen under the Biden-era FTC and then-Chair Lina Khan. “In the last administration, the FTC abandoned its rich bipartisan tradition and historical mission, in favor of a radical agenda and partisan mismanagement,” said a statement issued by Reps. Brett Guthrie (R-Ky) and Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.). “The Commission needs to return to protecting Americans from bad actors and preserving competition in the marketplace.”
However DeepSeek’s models were built, they appear to show that a less closed approach to developing AI is gaining momentum. In December, Clem Delangue, the CEO of HuggingFace, a platform that hosts artificial intelligence models, predicted that a Chinese company would take the lead in AI because of the speed of innovation happening in open source models, which China has largely embraced. “This went faster than I thought,” he says.
The narrative that DeepSeek is challenging US dominance in AI has contributed to a growing sense of national pride within China. A central part of the company’s heroic origin story is its development of resource-efficient models, which was seen as a direct response to US policies designed to cut off China’s access to cutting-edge semiconductors. As a result, DeepSeek’s success has fueled a growing belief in China that those measures may eventually fail.

Huawei used the R1 model to upgrade its Siri-like AI assistant, Xiaoyi. The chatbot allows users to pick whether they want their requests to be answered with “automatic deep thinking” or “quick and short responses.” The other big Chinese smartphone makers — Oppo, Honor, Vivo, Xiaomi — have made similar moves by incorporating functions backed by R1, such as text and video creation, and web search.
More than 20 Chinese automobile brands have announced plans to embed DeepSeek models, according to local news reports. Much of the adoption appears to be focused on improving existing AI features, including voice control, high-precision mapping, and smartphone-like access to music, web search, and messaging services.
The product is an “understanding friend” who can “catch your thoughts accurately,” according to the company’s product launch video.
Nearly 100 hospitals around China have announced they will adopt DeepSeek in their operations, according to a report from Beijing-based online publication Economic Observer News. The applications include supporting diagnostic and treatment processes, analysis of medical imaging, quality control for medical records, and research on new drug uses.
The group indicated that since it adopted DeepSeek, it has seen great advances in both its efficiency at parsing “public opinion data” from across the internet and its ability to filter out noise, and that it can now more quickly identify potential hazards when monitoring hot topics. In addition, DeepSeek can automatically generate “strategic recommendations for public opinion response” based on its analysis of vast quantities of data, and provide smarter “suggestions for handling public opinion.”
Many local propaganda departments and Party media outlets have said that DeepSeek can automatically generate press releases based on real-time information, helping state-media journalists to quickly compose news reports.
The [Chinese Communist Party], with its vast access to the data of China-based companies, could use DeepSeek to enforce laws and intimidate adversaries in myriad ways — for example, deploying AI police agents to cancel a Lunar New Year holiday trip planned by someone required by the state to stay within a geofenced area; or telephoning activists after a protest to warn of the consequences of joining future demonstrations. It could also save police officers’ time. Rather than issuing “invitations to tea” (a euphemism for questioning), AI agents could conduct phone interviews and analyze suspects’ voices and emotional cues for signs of repentance. Police operators would, however, still need to confirm any action taken by AI agents.

The nation’s top health agency will undertake a “massive testing and research effort” to determine the cause of autism, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced Thursday.
Kennedy, a longtime vaccine critic who has pushed a discredited theory that routine childhood shots cause the developmental disability, said the effort will be completed by September and involve hundreds of scientists. He shared the plans with President Donald Trump during a televised Cabinet meeting.
Kennedy has offered no details on how his study will be different or what researchers will be involved. Leading autism organizations, such as the Autism Society of America, have not been included in discussions about the research, said ASA spokeswoman Kristyn Roth.
Roth said many agree that more research is needed to determine what causes autism, but Kennedy’s approach has raised alarms.
Kennedy has hired David Geier, a man who has repeatedly claimed a link between vaccines and autism, to lead the autism research effort. The hiring of Geier, who the state of Maryland found was practicing medicine on a child without a doctor’s license, was first reported by The Washington Post.
Authored by Texas Rep. David Lowe (R- North Richland Hills), the bill— HB 3958—would give the Texas Attorney General the ability to seek hefty penalties for museums that are deemed to promote obscene material.
The bill defines “obscene material” based on Sections 43.22, 43.23 and 43.24 of the Texas Penal Code, which classify obscenity as content that portrays sexual conduct without any artistic or educational value or features the nudity of individuals under 18.

The Dallas Express visited the museum and saw several pictures featuring children. One photo showed a girl jumping on top of a table. Another depicted a boy with an unknown liquid substance and his genitals exposed.
The Dallas Express team then saw a video on a TV screen where an individual talked about her “queerness.”
“One of my major apprehensions around having a child was not knowing how we would be treated as queer people and queer parents. This is largely why I wasn’t interested in being pregnant,” the individual is heard saying during a video played during the exhibit.

Police in Texas have seized several works by the photographer Sally Mann from the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (The Modern), following a complaint that the images portray naked children and could be seen as pornographic.

Although the exhibition has been open since mid-November, it seems Mann’s photographs first came under scrutiny just before Christmas, when The Dallas Express received a tip from a local resident and sent its staff writer Carlos Turcios to investigate.
The images — part of Mann’s controversial “Immediate Family” series from the early 1990s — had been removed by Fort Worth police in January following complaints from local officials, including Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare, who alleged the photographs could constitute child pornography. The museum had included several of Mann’s portraits, which depict her children nude, in its “Diaries of Home” exhibition.
On Tuesday, the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office issued a statement confirming the grand jury’s decision to take “no action” against the museum or its staff. The Fort Worth Police Department has said the photographs will be returned to the museum.

Even then, the Government’s “evidence” of any connection between Abrego Garcia and MS-13 was thin, to say the least. The Government’s claim was based on (1) Abrego Garcia “wearing a Chicago Bulls hat and hoodie,” and (2) “a vague, uncorroborated allegation from a confidential informant claiming he belonged to MS-13’s ‘Western’ clique in New York—a place he has never lived.”
That’s up to El Salvador if they want to return him. That’s not up to us. The Supreme Court ruled, President, that if El Salvador wants to return… this is international matters, foreign affairs… if they wanted to return him, we would facilitate it, meaning: provide a plane.
Bukele: Are you suggesting I smuggle a terrorist into the United States, right? How can I smuggle… how can I return him to the United States? Like… I smuggle him into the United States, what would you do? Of course I’m not going to do it. The question is preposterous. How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States? I don’t have the power to return him to the United States.

Yesterday, President Trump confirmed that the United States has the power to facilitate Abrego Garcia’s release from prison and return to the United States: “If the Supreme Court said, ‘Bring somebody back,’ I would do that. … I respect the Supreme Court.”1 Of course, that is precisely what the Supreme Court did when it ruled that this Court’s injunction “properly requires the Government to ‘facilitate’ Abrego Garcia’s release from custody in El Salvador and to ensure that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador.” Noem et al. v. Abrego Garcia et al., 604 U.S. ____, 2025 WL 1077101, at *1 (Apr. 10, 2025). The Government should be required to comply with the Supreme Court’s order that it “ensure that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador,” by taking all available steps to release and return Abrego Garcia to Maryland.

It is my understanding based on official reporting from our Embassy in San Salvador that Abrego Garcia is currently being held in the Terrorism Confinement Center in El Salvador. He is alive and secure in that facility. He is detained pursuant to the sovereign, domestic authority of El Salvador.
Although Abrego-Garcia has an order of removal issued by an immigration judge, I understand that he should not have been removed to El Salvador because the immigration judge had also granted Abrego-Garcia withholding of removal to El Salvador. However, I also understand that Abrego Garcia is no longer eligible for withholding of removal because of his membership in MS-13 which is now a designated foreign terrorist organization
Looking forward to seeing President Bukele, of El Salvador, on Monday! Our Nations are working closely together to eradicate terrorist organizations, and build a future of Prosperity. President Bukele has graciously accepted into his Nation’s custody some of the most violent alien enemies of the World and, in particular, the United States. ,” wrote El Salvador’s ministry of foreign affairs in a memo obtained by The Associated Press.
Defendants understand “facilitate” to mean what that term has long meant in the immigration context, namely actions allowing an alien to enter the United States. Taking “all available steps to facilitate” the return of Abrego Garcia is thus best read as taking all available steps to remove any domestic obstacles that would otherwise impede the alien’s ability to return here. Indeed, no other reading of “facilitate” is tenable—or constitutional—here.
This reading follows directly from the Supreme Court’s order. Order, at 2 (holding any “directive” must give “due regard” to the Executive Branch’s exclusive authorities over “foreign affairs”). It tracks longstanding executive practice. Id. at 4 (Statement of Sotomayor, J.) (describing ICE Policy Directive as the “well-established policy” of the United States). And it comports with how the federal courts have understood the outer bounds of their own power. See Reply in Support of Application to Vacate the Injunction, at 5-7 (Sup. Ct.) (No. 24A949) (collecting authorities).
On the flipside, reading “facilitate” as requiring something more than domestic measures would not only flout the Supreme Court’s order, but also violate the separation of powers. The federal courts have no authority to direct the Executive Branch to conduct foreign relations in a particular way, or engage with a foreign sovereign in a given manner. That is the “exclusive power of the President as the sole organ of the federal government in the field of international relations.” United States v. Curtiss-Wright Export Corp., 299 U.S. 304, 320 (1936). Such power is “conclusive and preclusive,” and beyond the reach of the federal courts’ equitable authority. Trump v. United States, 603 U.S. 593, 607 (2024).
Plaintiffs’ additional relief runs headlong through this constitutional limit.

And this is the exact kind of administration to do exactly that. These ghouls don’t believe in universal human rights. They believe human rights are for people deemed “worthy” of having those rights—and that basically means the only people worthy of those rights are American-born cishet White conservative Christian men. I mean, there are Trump supporters who think the 19th Amendment was a bad idea; I’m sure that if you look hard enough, you’ll find some who believe the Fifteenth and even the Thirteenth were mistakes, too. And if you look real close, you might find people who think the first two words of the Fifth Amendment should be “no citizen” instead of “no person”—a distinction this administration is already trying to make.
Denouncing all of this is the easiest moral decision one can make about this administration. Those who refuse to denounce what’s been done here don’t deserve the benefit of a doubt—they would be the same kind of people who, at a bare minimum, turned their backs on the Jews in Nazi Germany.
And if they don’t like that comparison? Well, there’s a solution for that: Don’t make the comparison possible.
The underlying message is that this could happen to any of us, so it would be prudent to keep your head down for the next few years.They may not GIVE you that “one phone call”.Now get back to WORK.
